Hey everyone! I'm Nicole, 33 (will turn 34 in a few weeks), a native Hoosier (Indiana resident in case you're unfamiliar with the term ), married, no kids (childfree!!), and mom to one fat orange tabby cat. I actually joined the forums last year and am just now posting...I guess I've been a bit of a lurker!

I've been interested in simple and frugal living for years now. I go to this site and others regularly. My husband and I live in a small house ~ neither one of us is a packrat, and I thankfully lost most interest in shopping for fun a long time ago (well, except for thrift stores and Etsy.com/craft shows for handmade items ~ LOVE those still). Accumulating tons of useless junk is so pointless to me. And no kids certainly makes our lives much more simple...

Nice to meet you all!

Nicole

Welcome, I hope you have some good ideas to contribute to the forums. Any other forums to suggest to the members here to help us in our journey?

Wow, so your off to a great start, were your parents simple people? Or have you always felt this way? I'm always amazed when someone feels this calling from a young age, for me it was of course poverty that started the cycle, then wealth, then proverty, and finding the joy was somewhere in the middle.
Welcome, please jump in and share your ideas, your thoughts and your story wherever you can.

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

flowerqueen - I really like the forums on Frugal Village and Dollar Stretcher, and Zen Habits has a lot of good articles on simple and frugal living. I have many many more bookmarked - just let me know if you want a big list!

hbrandenburg - yes, my parents were thrifty and somewhat into simple living (not extreme by any means though). It may have helped that I grew up in a small town, and as far as simple living goes, I think it's easier in a small place. Of course as soon as I moved out on my own (when I was 20), I racked up a bunch of credit card debt and stupidly bought things for my (now) ex-boyfriend. But, I guess making those mistakes made me realize how great simple living is!

Hello, Hazy, hope you like it here!

I am a mostly lurking person but felt a bit guilty when I looked at your introduction and realized that there had been 66 views and lots fewer welcomes....I do experience this as a very welcoming place, but that reminds me that there are probably LOTS more reading participants than there are posting participants.

I too wish I'd had a sense of the simple and frugal earlier in my life! Living with a smaller footprint makes sense to me now, and my spending habits have changed a lot too. I am glad to have you on board. Good for you for your early start.

Best,
Leslie

Hi, Hazy! I, at least, know what a Hoosier is!

(I'm near Bloomington/Bedford, in the sticks.)

Welcome to the group.

Everywhere I see people living in a movie scene,
Basing their hopes and dreams on pictures they see in magazines.

Hi there and welcome from another midwesterner (Hawkeye here though!) and etsy lover :-)

Manifest plainness, embrace simplicity, reduce selfishness, have few desires.
