Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this forum, and delighted to have found it! I only recently learned about simple living so I'm still in the process of learning all about it, but I want to eventually implement these ideas into my life as much as I can. I think my ultimate goal is to live in an RV full time. But i'm currently unemployed and that goal is looking a bit impossible, for now.

Well I hope to enjoy it here and maybe make some new friends and learn a lot!

Welcome, Heroine26! We have a number of folks living the RV life (She-Rah, LooseChickens, PostOak, and others), who can answer questions and point out good resources. You'll definitely learn much. And it's good to read that you've got a goal you can see yourself reaching at some point, even if you're not sure how you'll get there from here.

Check out the forums, absorb, and enjoy!

Hello, I'm a baby newbie here. Just retired and wish I'd found this site many years ago. Yet, I'm willing to learn new ways to save money and am exhausted with the idea of "stuff". Which thread should I go to next to begin this new Simple Living Life?

Thanks for any advice.

Living in an RV....I did that and amazingly, found that in my area, the cost of living is so high that I qualify for low income housing. A definite step up since the RV I lived in for 5 years was falling down around my ears. I bought it used, it was 10 years old when I got it. I spent at least $1,000 over the years, trying to keep it livable. Once upon a time, $40,000 a year was considered middle class. In my area, a single person can make up to $41,000 a year and be considered low income. When I was first told about the housing, I pictured a ghetto like environment. WRONG. This is the best kept secret ever. My apartment is all brick on the outside, double paned windows, central air/heat, a garden area out front, grassy area with clothesline out back, 2 storage areas with locks, and motion detector lighting. Fridge and stove are provided. There is room for a washer/dryer. The county replaces the furnace filter, lightbulbs and sprays for bugs every 3 months. They also mow the lawn. 2 small pets are allowed. I have a cat and a dog. The county also pays for water, sewer and trash. Rent is capped at $350 and is based on my income. Right now I pay $154 a month plus gas and electricity. People who live here don't leave until they die. Something to consider if you find it hard to find affordable housing. I was told it would take 1-4 years to get in, but it happened much faster for me. They told me that the wait is 20 years in California. And some people apply in other states, then when they get a place, they make the move. This is a huge blessing, and my neighbors are the best. The only negative is that you have to have the money available to pay the deposits because when they call, you have to be ready to act quickly. Deposits for me came to $600 total. I was loaned the money so that I could move. Otherwise I never could have done it.
