I feel like I should say I only gleemed through the original book as a loose reference more than a excercise or lifestyle change. That was about 10 years ago?
Anyhow, my latest thing is to food shop paying attention to the unit price or price per ounce.
I once read, no longer rembember where, that food is the largest investment one will make in a life time. It kind of makes sense when you realize one eats from the time they are born until they die.
Anyhow, after all these years I realized that ounce for ounce Ramin noodles are as expensive as Samon. If is, if nothing else, any interesting excercise. I have been trying to stay at 12 cents, or less, an ounce. |

| Not to be difficult - heaven knows I'm never that - but in the ramen example, the noodles themselves are expensive per pound but that's because they're dehydrated. On a plate, the four ounces of salmon is $2.50 but the quarter pound of prepared ramen noodles is still only $.12. I do think when comparing food by weight it's also important to consider how much of the item will be used in a serving of the prepared food. |

Ah ha ha. I didn't say I would never have Ramens again. FOr one thing they mix very well with other foods. Especially fozen oriental veggies.Yum. They are also good for lite hiking food out of the bag, too.
Not to mention mixing ramen with less expensive ingredients brings down the cost per ounce for a serving.

Yes, like, um, water.
From a pure accounting standpoint, it's the salmon you should be avoiding. |

| I had Japanese neighbors and the mom invited me to lunch one day and served ramen-style noodles with a fried egg on top. It was sooo good and I never would have thought of that combo. Now, it is a fave quick lunch for me when I am craving noodles. |

Another delish noodle dish is speghetti with soy sauce and parm cheese. I mix in a little butter and hot sauce Sometimes I add veggies and chicken, too. Try it. |
