Posted - Oct 13 2009 : 08:13:50 AM I'm really interested in finding out how many other 30 something's are considering letting their hair go natural and letting the gray hair make its appearance. Would love to hear what made you decide to go ahead and go against the current so to speak.
With me it's reading all about the chemicals that are put on our heads and the damage that is done once those chemicals drain through our scalp and into our bloodstream and then the toxins travel through and attach themselves to whatever organ they want to make house in.
Just really curious to know if I'm alone in this new adventure of letting my hair color do what its planning on doing without any outside chemicals. I just hope that I will inherit my dad's beautiful gray hair. His hair was very classy before he died. |

Posted - Nov 03 2009 : 07:08:43 AM If I were in my 40s or 50s & just starting to show gray or white - I'd likely just keep my hair natural.
It's much different when you're younger, have very dark hair, or have a strangely patterned gray/white. All of that has been my experience.
I've been coloring my hair since I was in my 20s - and professionally for almost 15 years. It's a pain and an expense I'd like to avoid. But my hair looks much better & actually more natural than if I'd left it in its natural state. I know other people in similar situations.
For some people, gray or white hair could look appropriate or even flattering. All white or all gray hair can be beautiful and some streaks of non-color can be attractive. For others, it's simply an unfortunate genetic fluke. |

Posted - Nov 01 2009 : 1:11:21 PM Sarahrose~ seeing women like that makes me want to just stop and talk with them and take notes on how they've gotten to that point. Did they once struggle with the thoughts that I am dealing with? I want to ask them so very badly...I want those types of women to shout from the roof tops that there is nothing wrong with being real and being satisfied with who we've become. I read this thread almost everyday because at times I am overwhelmed with feeling like what am I thinking going against the grain. But this thread always reassures me. Thank you all for your comments..I want to start a thread just for us gray haired women:) |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 11:43:52 PM I saw a woman today that was completely gray and had not a stitch of make-up on her face. She was absolutely beautiful! She was fit and healthy looking, wearing flattering clothes, she had a great figure for her age, a flattering hairstyle, but most important was the smile on her face and the confidence she displayed. I wanna be like her! |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 04:12:19 AM I loved it when I did dye my hair and I love it now that I don't! Other people's comments never bothered me - and still don't. I wear my hair the way *I* want to and I have always enjoyed both the good and bad choices - LOL! |

Posted - Oct 30 2009 : 9:54:25 PM Florence~ I agree with you 100% I used to be into the fake nails and obviously the fake hair and I now I see the beauty in our natural state. I remember after I got my hair highlighted for the umpteenth time I took a look around at all the girls I saw one day and every where I turned our hair looked the same. It was a light bulb moment for me...do I honestly want to look like everyone else? This is crazy! |

Posted - Oct 30 2009 : 11:04:27 AM I think it looks ridiculous to have dyed brown hair, when with 1/4" roots showing, it is perfectly obvious that your hair is not brown. Actually, it is sad that so much time, effect, money, and pollution go into making someone look fake. JMHO |

Posted - Oct 30 2009 : 09:48:48 AM I was dying a wig the other day with real hair dye. Oh don't ask it's halloween, ok? And my mom comes in and says maybe she should use some of it to dye her hair. Completely and utterly ridiculous. I talked her out of it.
Now my mom is 70 years old. Who doesn't have a few grays then? It's completely absurd to pretend you don't have any grays at an age anyone would. Futhermore, my moms hair was looking absolutely stunning, shiny healthy manageable, salt and pepper, at least 60% pepper, and without any hints of yellow in the salt :). I mean just beautiful hair. When I go gray (and I'm in no hurry for my hair to lose it's natural pigment but when it does ...) I want to go gray that way so badly. But even she considers dying it. Heh, absurd. |

Posted - Oct 30 2009 : 08:11:08 AM Tenn Gal~ I recently talked with a friend of mine with a full head of pretty white/gray hair and she mentioned that during her transistion from colored to her natural color she had to go short in her hair length so it would make her feel better while transitioning.
You can do this:) |

Posted - Oct 29 2009 : 10:44:02 AM I am 53 and would love to "go natural" with my hair. It is dark brown with a few golden highlights, about 20% gray. My daughter is a hairdresser and always talks me into getting the color touched up and highlights with foils. It is a time comsuming process and I am very tempted to stop it. I just wonder how to do the transition. |

Posted - Oct 29 2009 : 09:54:15 AM Ok comments like: oh you have such beautiful red hair. I reply: Its dyed. To which they say: Oh my I thought it was natural. Things along those lines. All comments are complimentary. Well, except when they imply I must have a temper because I am a "redhead":) |

You say you get comments - that's different than compliments! LOL |

Posted - Oct 23 2009 : 11:55:11 AM I'm really blessed in that I'm 48 and have almost no gray hair. My natural hair color is a reddish brown. I was blond as a kid. I put sun-in on it a year and a half ago, but am letting it go back to natural since it was so drying to my hair. |

Isn't it funny how it IS such a personal decision but everyone we know has an opinion about it?
What is giving me the courage to do this at my age is that I have another friend my age who has never dyed her hair and it's salt and pepper, and she looks fabulous. If mine can look half as good as hers does I'd be happy.
As far as quips...gosh I'm not nearly that witty!!! I'll try to think of some though. |
